Your character is asked to describe himself before a court filled with people s/he respects. Magic will reveal outright lies, but not subtle nuances of deceit. How would your character describe him/herself and how would s/he account for her life so far?
Describe myself eh, well I’m a dwarf and a cleric, a wizard and an outcast. I am intelligent and capable. Despite what some of my kin might say I am also loyal. I’m someone you want on your side, someone you don’t want to be up against.
Later that night you get totally hammered on Dwarven Wine and Elvish Ale (a bad combo). Completely bombed, how do you now answer question -1 to the bard you are drinking with who you’ll never see again after tonight?
A Bard eh, let me tell you of some of the adventures I’ve been on, of the wonders I have seen. You should find these tales interesting!
Should you ever find yourself near the lands belonging to the Stonewarder clan, my clan, share with them what I have told you. Hopefully if my deeds become well known, they will see that they were wrong to exile me and allow me to return home.
Of the common virtues like honesty, courage, loyalty, friendliness, intelligence, honor and the like, which ones does your character value highly in others? Which does s/he possess in spades? Which does s/he THINK s/he has, but really doesn’t? What qualities in a person will make you hate them?
I value loyalty above all other virtues, though I have yet to truly find it in anyone.
Could everyone make a character who is at least 25-30 years old (or older)? What did you do in that time? Were you training with knights? Working for a pirate? Enslaved to an evil necromancer (or good necromancer)? Provide some details and feel free to add to the world by making assumptions about just about anything – the more you give me to work with the richer your role playing experience is going to be and the more opportunities for your character to be in the spotlight!
I spent the early part of my life as a member of Clan Stonewarder, studying to become a cleric. I devoted myself to my duties even though at times I found the work to be unsatisfying. I was exiled from my clan when it was discovered that I had secretly begun to study arcane magick, a practice that is strictly forbidden by our King and the laws of our clan.
After my exile I traveled for a while not paying heed to where I was going. Eventually settling in a small town to the south of the Seven Sister’s near the Trader’s Road. I worked for the town’s blacksmith, for many years, as a simple apprentice. Though truth be told I’d learned more about smithing by the time I was twelve then that lummox will ever know. Still it was a good time I spent my days crafting nails and horseshoes, fixing plow and pots. Simple work. Humble work.
Eventually with the help of a friend I found the will to move on. I renewed my faith in Moradin and welcomed him back into my heart. I have also taken up the pursuit of arcane lore and magicks again. Both of these things define who I am.
The last couple of years I have spent working mostly as an escort for merchant’s traveling up and down the Trader’s Road.
What happened to your family? Do you still have a mom & dad out there on a farm? Brothers and sisters?
My parents are still alive, though to them I might as well be dead. I have no brothers or sisters.
Describe your character’s voice. Would you say he speaks with formality? Casually? Does he have any favorite expressions/curses?
Blood and bloody ashes! What kind of a fool question is that!
What is your character’s favorite food? Drink? What does the character hate?
I have to admit my tastes are fairly simple. A good steak or maybe some mutton, and a flagon of ale to wash it down with, and I’m satisfied.
Describe character’s first battle, first hunt, or first killing of another person. Try to make it as vivid as possible, including the character’s age, training and experience, plus details on the surroundings (weather, terrain, uniforms or clothing of self & others).
I have killed many people. When I was young I fought alongside the warriors of my clan. Helping to defend it from all manner of threats. Most recently though it’s mostly been bandits, orcs, and the occasional hungry bear.
Your character is the butt of a practical joke. Could your character see the humor in it? Would your character get even? Does getting even mean staging another practical joke, or something else?
Practical jokes aren’t practical! I’ve no time for them, and you should find a more appreciative target. Got it.
Your character is plagued by a recurring nightmare/dream. Describe the dream.
Everybody has some little item that they regard as somehow sacred. A piece of clothing, a momento of some event, whatever. What is your character’s sacred item? Tell the story of how your character found it, or why it came to be important.
I am a dwarf, the items that are sacred to me are the ones that allow me to practice my Craft. My spell and ritual books, my staff, my holy symbol. These never leave my sight. I also have the hammer that I used while working as a blacksmith after I was exiled. It sometimes brings me peace and comfort to hold it. It’s also very handy should an enemy get too close. Very few people, attacking a wizard, expect to be thumped by a large hunk o’ metal.
Does your character sleep well? What kind of dreams does s/he have, if any?
I sleep well, soundly, and if some people are to be believed loudly. I however do not believe that I snore.
To your character does revenge mean (1) “an eye for an eye” (2) “repayment with interest” (3) the only good enemy is a dead enemy or something else? Do you serve revenge hot, as soon as possible, or cold, awaiting a perfect place and time?
Revenge is best served as a final meal. If you bring harm to me or mine I will hunt you down, I will find you, and I will destroy you. I will not make the mistake of letting you live to try again.
You return to a comfortable inn that has housed you in cozy hospitality numerous times over the years. You find that the kindly family has just been threatened, beaten up and robbed. You track down the leader and capture him. What will you do now?
The leader would of course have to be killed. He’s brought harm to those that I consider to be my friends and thus under my protection.
What would provoke you to kill a commoner?
The same provocation that would cause me to kill anyone else… becoming a threat to me or mine.
Do you fear/respect/love the gods? Which ones? Why?
As a dwarf, and a cleric, I revere Moradin, our creator. As a wizard I pay homage to both Corellon and Ioun.
What is your character’s biggest mistake/regret?
I would like to say that my biggest mistake was in studying forbidden lore. That ignoring my King’s edict forbidding the practice of Arcane magick was my greatest regret, but the truth is I don’t truly regret those acts. My biggest mistake, what I truly regret is having been caught! Had I been more careful, I might still be living among my clan. Using my new found abilities to help defend my people, and maybe when the time was right doing what I could to change my King’s thoughts regarding the Arcane.
Instead I am exiled from home, shunned by family and clan, never to be allowed to return. I regret not having been more careful.
